Tags

Azure, Font, Line

We accept HTML5 and third-party tags for use across our IAB banner ad formats.

If you wish to supply creative tags for your campaign, please make sure that they are SSL compatible. We also ask that you provide a tracking report 24 hours after campaign go-live to ensure all tags are tracking as expected.

1. Hand-coded creative

If you have the in house resource for hand coded ads, you can build your HTML5 creative using any text editor. HTML is an open web format so you aren’t bound to using any specific tool.

2. Google Web Designer

GWD is a GUI for building HTML5 content. Using one of their pre built templates, drag and drop components and detailed walkthroughs, your HTML creative can be built entirely within their web based platform.

3. Hype

An alternative option is Hype from Tumult. It features a more advanced suite of animation tools, which are particularly useful for creating HTML5 content. Note: Hype is a mac only desktop application

Files and folders

All methods listed will produce a compressed .zip file, with all assets required for your ad inside. Where possible, please refrain from having any additional folders inside the .zip file; instead all assets should be accessible in the root folder.

Please only use the following file types in your .zip folder:

css; js; html; gif; png; jpg; svg

Video files should be hosted on a CDN or video delivery service.

File sizes

Initial load: Asset files load immediately when the ad tag is inserted in the page.

DFP recommend the following file size limits:

Desktop/Tablet 150kb

Mobile 40kb

Politely loaded: All of the creative’s subsequent assets are loaded once the host webpage has completed loading.

DFP recommend the following file size limits:

Desktop/Tablet 2mb

Mobile 300kb

Clicktag integration for DFP

In order for us to properly track clicks with your creative, we need you to add the following clickTag code to your click/tap event handler...

var clickTag = "%%CLICK_URL_ESC%%%%DEST_URL%%";window.open(clickTag, "_blank");

Setting up a clicktag

1. Keep it light

Keep creative images light – use tinypng.com to properly compress png and jpg images used in your creative.

2. Limit requests

Limit the number of requests – reduce the number of files used in your creative by turning large numbers of images into sprites.

3. Less is more

External libraries should be used rather than included scripts. jQuery should be avoided where possible. Also keep code clean and minimal – use efficient and compact JavaScript and minify wherever possible.

5. Browsers

Ensure compatibility with all target browsers – caniuse.com will tell you which browsers support the features you want to use.

6. Fonts

If you’re using fonts other than standard web fonts, consider using Google fonts – a large library of free fonts.

Tips and best practices

HTML5 and DFP

Upload HTML5 creatives easily in DFP with the HTML5 creative type. Simply select the HTML5 creative type when adding a creative, and you’ll be able to quickly upload HTML5 zip bundles or standalone HTML files.

DFP handles the bundle/file properly with no manual work required.
